Children may use an irrigator from the moment of oral hygiene skills development and only under parents' (adults') control. The main thing is not to get scared! You need to reduce the power of water jet to its minimum. You may also add a mouth rinse to eliminate bleeding in the gums. When inflammation on the gums is cured, there will be no blood. Gradually increase the power of water jet. Healthy gums never bleed, even at maximum power. Consult your dentist on the most suitable pressure of water jet for you, especially if you have periodontal and oral mucosa diseases.

As practice shows, gums bleeding stops within two weeks. Gums are being massaged with a stream of water, the blood circulation improves, and, as a result, you get healthy and beautiful gums.

An irrigator may be used after each meal, for cleaning gums and interdental gaps from food debris, and teeth from plaque. Especially if there are tooth crowns, bridges, implants. As far as it is possible, clean your teeth using the irrigator. That will only brighten up your smile. General recommendations – use the irrigator 2 times a day, when brushing your teeth in the morning and in the evening.

As the practice of the AQUAJET irrigator service shows, the main reason for this problem is poor quality of water with excess of limestone in it. Sometimes customers use herb teas for the irrigator, which contain suspension of the remains of the plants. Very likely, the internal tubes and cavities of the device have diminished in size and have been clogged. You may try an acidified water solution (lemon, vinegar 9%). Pour this solution into the irrigator’s tank. Turn on the irrigator and pour out half of the tank into the sink at the lowest water jet power. Turn off the irrigator for 15 minutes – let the solution "work" inside the device. Then turn on the irrigator again and use the solution to the last drop.

Keep an eye on the water being used for irrigation. Perhaps, it is better to use purified filtered water to extend the "life" of the device. As the practice of using the device in Moscow shows, the device works with ordinary tap water up to 6-7 years without reducing the water pressure in it.

The nozzle must be individual, kept clean in a special compartment for the storage of nozzles. The service life of the nozzle is unlimited. However, the old nozzle can cause decrease of water stream in irrigator. Limescale from poor-quality water can be deposited in the nozzle. When using the nozzle, its tip often touches the teeth (dental devices) and deformed plastic around the hole at the tip of the nozzle closes the hole for the stream. This prevents the water to leave the nozzle freely. Sometimes this deformation is not even visible with the naked eye.

The nozzles are inexpensive and are recommended for replacement every 6-9 months.

The nozzles are sold separately, 2 pieces per package. There are two types of nozzles:

• regular individual nozzles (model LD-SA01),
• individual nozzles with flexible tip (model LD-SA02). These nozzles have a soft tip for painless contact with gums and teeth and are safer for use by children.

The nozzles for the irrigator models LD-A7 and LD-A8 are different, therefore choose the model suitable for your irrigator. The service life of each nozzle is not less than 1,000 cycles of use.

Always use an individual nozzle of your color – this is a guarantee of compliance with personal hygiene requirements.

Pure water of cool comfortable temperature can be used in the irrigator. If the tap water is very stiff, then it is better to use filtered water (the irrigator will be in use for a longer time period).

It is not bad to add mouth rinse or special liquid for the irrigator.

Medically speaking, the usefulness of such solutions is controversial, but you will add pleasant smell to your procedure.

Caution should be exercised when using solutions with Chlorhexidine. In case of inflammatory processes in the mouth or after surgery, this solution performs the disinfection function of damaged tissues of the oral mucosa. However, the long-term use of such rinse destroys the natural flora of the mouth.  

Do not use oil solutions, herbal infusions and teas.

Pregnant women may use the irrigator, if it does not cause discomfort (gag reflex, bleeding gums during pregnancy gingivitis). You can try to select an individual operating mode of the irrigator, but do not give up its use completely. Sometimes the irrigator is the only means of maintaining oral hygiene during pregnancy.

Inadequate hygiene of the interdental spaces leads to the multiplication of pathogenic microbes in the mouth, and this can adversely affect the flow of pregnancy itself.

Lactating women need to use the irrigator, since this is an additional cleaning of the oral cavity and freshness of breath. Knowing how close and long the "mother-child" communication lasts – use the irrigator!

The irrigator is not a substitute for a toothbrush or dental floss. This is additional cleaning of hard-to-reach areas, interdental spaces – places most often affected by caries. The irrigator is a preventative remedy against inflammation and even an element of treatment of inflamed adjacent gums to both teeth and dental prostheses and implants. This is an indispensable tool for braces maintenance.

Oral hygiene should be comprehensive! Using AQUAJET for oral hygiene cannot completely replace the toothbrush. Use AQUAJET after a meal to wash off food debris and provide a deep gum massage, then use a toothbrush and a dental floss to clean the teeth. According to studies of periodontal diseases, early stages of calculus formation are often ignored because of a lack of clear signs. Usually, disease is allowed to progress to more serious stages. Gums bleeding after AQUAJET use is a symptom of periodontitis, however, regular use of AQUAJET will result in relief of this symptom and allow gums to return to a healthier state. Consult your dentist if bleeding lasts for more than two weeks.

Yes, this problem exists and hard, poorly purified tap water clogs many holes in the irrigator. Therefore, we recommend the use of purified (with household filter) water for the irrigator.
If you still use simple tap water, you need to change the nozzles regularly to new ones (once in about 6 months) and to prolong the life of the irrigator by regular cleaning.

How can I clean the irrigator of limescale?

As with cleaning of kitchen appliances (kettles, coffee machines), a descaling agent will help here. Some internet sites offer "irrigator cleaner", but this is actually a normal scale-out tool.
It is easily determined by the specification indicated on the package.

Today supermarkets offer various agents for descaling JUST kitchen devices used for cooking. Usually, they have no restrictions on use with plastic products. There are a lot of electric kettles with plastic parts now. Such means are safe – after cleaning we drink water or ready-made coffee.

So, step-by-step instructions:

1. Prepare the descaling agent solution according to instructions. Do not forget that the solution should be at room temperature.
2. Fill fully the irrigator’s tank with the solution. 
3. Remove the nozzle. After cleaning it is better to replace it with a new one. 
4. Turn on the irrigator for 15 seconds and let the water flow.
5. Turn off the irrigator and wait for 15-20 minutes. 
6. Repeat the procedure until you use the entire solution from the tank. 
7. Rinse the container and fully fill it with clean water. 
8. Turn on the irrigator and, without interruption, use all the water from the tank. It will help to remove residues of a cleaning agent and rinse the irrigator from inside. 
   

For a more visible result, you can repeat the procedure again. 

Such cleaning will help to prolong the life of the irrigator and maintain high pressure of water jet, even when using hard tap water.
